Enjoy Long Weekends for Less: Budget Travel Tips for Your Next Vacation in 2023

Posted September 02, 2022 | First time home buyers

Now that we know the official holidays for 2023, we can now make plans for our vacations next year.  But with inflation and rising costs of goods still at large, we need to be more practical in spending for everything – including our holidays. Vacations can be expensive and tedious to plan, but with the right approach, you can still make it worth your time and money for a priceless bonding time with family or friends.

1.  Do your research

For a budget-friendly holiday, every detail counts. So it's best to stock up first on as much information as you can. Read blogs or watch Youtube videos to learn more about your chosen destination. Budget travel blogger The Poor Traveler is a good start.  They provide sample itineraries with budgets so you can know what to expect and avoid unnecessary expenses. When canvassing for plane fares, use price comparison apps like Skyscanner, Kayak, and similar apps for hotels such as  Agoda and Booking.com. Research COVID-related travel policies and make sure to comply with these before your trip – especially if you're traveling abroad. You can also check local events that might coincide with your vacation and adjust your travel plans accordingly – whether you wish to attend those events or reschedule your trip to avoid the crowds. But be warned that plane fares and accommodations usually spike up during these events.

2.  Set a budget

This is very important. Decide on a working budget and stick with it. Your budget will also help you in deciding details like how long your trip is, where you’re staying, where you’re going and eating, and so on. Check conversion rates if you’re traveling abroad. Don't forget to include travel insurance for international trips – this is your safety net in case of emergencies abroad. And always set aside a contingency fund –  it’s best to set aside a good 10-20% of your budget so you can be prepared for unforeseen expenses. It’s also best to call your credit card company days before your trip so you can use your card abroad – it’s more convenient and safer than carrying cash. Just make sure you swipe wisely!

3.  Book early

Now that you’re armed with your research and have your budget ready, it’s time to book the trip! Generally speaking, you can save more if you book early, especially for plane fares and hotels. The closer you get to your travel date, the more expensive rates become. Once you have all the details of your trip finalized, it’s best to book as early as you can. Some plane tickets can also be charged on your credit card on an installment basis so you don’t have to pay for these in one go. For hotels, you may book them online without a deposit in most cases. Check also your credit card for the best deals and discounts – they may have tie-up promos with these companies that can give you more bang for your buck.

Sometimes, the best trips you can take with your family or friends don't have to be the most exotic or far-flung destinations. What’s important is you spend quality time together in a relaxing and enjoyable place. That’s why living in a home that is accessible to weekend getaways can be a plus factor.

Aside from offering high-quality, functional, and affordable homes that every Filipino deserves, each PlusHomes community is also strategically located in key growth areas of the country that provide the ultimate accessibility and convenience to its residents. On weekends, PlusHomes residents can also look forward to going out with their families or friends since weekend getaways are also within reach. Each PlusHomes village also features open-air lifestyle amenities such as basketball courts, gazebo clubhouse, open parks, and gardens if residents just want to chill out without going far from home.
