How To Transform Your Entryway

Posted August 19, 2022 | First time home buyers

What’s the first thing that you notice when you enter your home and the last thing that you see when leaving it? It’s your entryway! This small section of your home sets the tone for the rest of the house – for you and your guests. And who wouldn't want to achieve a warm and inviting entrance to your home? So whether you have a foyer, a hallway, or just a corner of your living room, here are some tips on how to spruce it up and make a statement.

1. Make it functional

An entryway doesn't have to be just pretty, it has to be functional too. Since this is the last part of the house you see before you leave every day, you can use this area to hold important items such as your keys, bills, masks, alcohol, and other daily must-haves. Depending on the size of your entryway, you may create a wall nook for hanging keys and bags or go all out with a full mud room where you can also store your shoes and jackets. In any case, hooks are a must-have so you can keep keys and other small items. Small pieces of furniture such as a foyer table, small cabinet, or shelves, can come in handy for storing your stuff away. For loose items that you bring with you such as spare change, you may add a tray so they’re contained even if you’re in a hurry. A small stool or bench can also be useful as you put on your shoes. You may also add a mirror where you can do a last-minute check before you head out.

2. Lush it up

Want to make your entryway come to life? Bringing in some living things can do the trick. Whether it's a full-grown tree, a potted plant, or a small succulent, greens are definitely in. Just make sure they’re indoor-friendly and that you tend to them appropriately. And if you're not a green thumb, a vase of flowers remains a classic.

3. Add some personality

Now that you’ve covered the basics, it’s time to add some personal touches. Do you have a favorite quote or personal mantra? Frame it up and hang it for a daily reminder. Is there an artwork that makes you smile? Placing it here can add some cheer to this corner.  Do you have a favorite photo or personal memento? The entryway is the perfect spot to display it - and it can also serve as a conversation starter when you have guests over. These personal touches make your entryway truly unique and one-of-a-kind.
