Nothing is more expensive than a bouquet of fresh roses on Valentine’s Day! This year, why not save yourself the money and hassle of buying flowers by making one yourself? And instead of just giving a pretty bouquet for your loved one to look at, you can go the extra mile by making one that they can also eat! Just follow these simple steps so you can be on your way to making your DIY Cupcake Rose Bouquet.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- Medium-sized terracotta, ceramic or heavy-duty plastic pot
- Medium-sized foam ball
- 15-20 plain cupcakes
- A bag of toothpicks
- Frosting, piping bag, and closed-star piping tip
- Fresh or plastic leaves
- Cupcake liners
HOW TO MAKE YOUR DIY CUPCAKE ROSE BOUQUET:
1. Secure cupcakes to foam base.
Place your foam ball inside your pot - make sure it fits snugly. Add 1-2 cupcake liner on each cupcake. Then, use 2-3 toothpicks to secure each plain cupcake into the foam ball until the whole foam is completely covered.
2. Add Greenery
Fill in the gaps between the cupcakes with fresh or plastic leaves to add greenery to your “bouquet”. You can also opt to make your own leaves using crepe or construction paper - don’t be afraid to be creative!
3. Frost Cupcakes into “Roses”
For the final touch, make your plain cupcakes into roses by adding colored frosting. This one will take some frosting skills and practice to make it perfect! Using your frosting bag, gently but firmly squeeze the bag to release frosting in a swirling motion starting from the center going all the way around the cupcake to create a “rose” design. Add frosting to all the cupcakes. You may also use different colored frostings for a colorful bouquet!
You don’t need to spend much to show your loved ones that you care for them this Valentine’s Day. With some baked goods, a few supplies, a little frosting, and a whole lot of creativity and love, you can easily make Valentine’s Day sweeter for your loved ones - literally! Always remember, it’s the thought that counts!
Happy Valentine’s Day!
